Jack and Dan were the original working titles of The Good Guys. The series was initially known by the working title Jack and Dan for several months. It was first called Code 58, which is the Dallas Police Department code that allows for routine investigation. The series was briefly called The Five Eight before being renamed to The Good Guys. Low ratings caused the show to struggle, ranking fourth for its time slot in summer and fifth from October. Fox aired the final episode on December 10, 2010.
On the final episode, Nix had a cameo appearance as a news reporter. He also had a voice cameo in the pilot, as he is the voice that says “We’ve got a burn notice on you. You’re blacklisted.”—which then went on to appear in the opening sequence of every episode. The series ended on September 12, 2013. Between seasons four and five, a Burn Notice movie, entitled Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe, was aired on USA Network. Written and executive-produced by Nix, the movie portrayed character Sam Axe’s final mission as a U.S. Navy SEAL.
The production company, Fox Television Studios, informed the Dallas Film Commission on December 15, 2010 that the show would not continue for a second season.

The title refers the the fire notices that they issue to discredit or announce the dismissal or resignation of sources or agents. The TV series follows Michael Westen, played by Jeffrey Donovan. He is left by his usual intelligence contacts. He is unable to understand why he was “burned” and so he starts working as a freelance spy/investigateur to try to discover the truth.
The series premiered on USA Network Thursday, June 28, 2007. The series starred Gabrielle Anwar, Fiona Glenanne as Westen’s “trigger-happy” ex- girlfriend”, Bruce Campbell as Sam Axe as Westen’s old friend who “used “to inform on” Westen), Sharon Gless playing Madeline Westen (Michael), and Coby Bell as Jesse Porter as Westen’s spy accidentally burned. It was announced during production of the fourth season, in early 2010, that the series would be renewed for two additional seasons.
In early 2010, Nix began working on The Good Guys, a series which premiered on Fox on May 19, 2010. The series starred Bradley Whitford as Dan Stark, a mustachioed, former big-shot detective with the Dallas Police Department, and Colin Hanks as Jack Bailey, a young, ambitious, by-the-book detective who has been assigned as Dan’s partner because of his snarky attitude.
