Matt Napoleon, born August 18, 1977, is an American retired soccer goalkeeper. He played professionally in Major League Soccer as well as the USL A-League. He was part of the United States national under-20 soccer team that participated in the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship.
Napoleon was an assistant coach for the Portland Timbers women’s soccer team.
Napoleon signed a professional agreement with MLS Project 40 on January 15, 1998. He was assigned to the Miami Fusion by the league. In 1998, he played for four games with the Fusion. He also played for Project 40 in the USISL A-League. The Fusion traded Napoleon to Columbus Crew on January 19, 1999 for Tim Sahaydak. Napoleon was with the Crew for two seasons before moving to Colorado Rapids. The Rapids released Napoleon on April 14, 2001. He signed with the Portland Timbers, USL A-League in May 2001. During the 2001 season, he was on loan to Dallas Burn. Napoleon was still with the Timbers in 2002. He went on loan to Dallas Burn on July 13, 2002 to play in a U.S. Open Cup match. He was loaned to the Colorado Rapids several times in August and September 2002 but never played in a league game. Napoleon was retired in January 2003. He did however come out of retirement to make an appearance for Charlotte Eagles 2003, before retiring again.

Napoleon was a youth player for FC Delco and graduated from Neshaminy High in 1995. Columbia University was his college. He played on Columbia’s men’s soccer team three seasons.
Three caps were earned by Napoleon in 1997 with the United States national under-20 soccer team. As the U-20 team prepared for the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship, he played nine more non-international matches. Napoleon was Andy Kirk’s backup during that tournament. Napoleon was a member of the United States’ national under-23 soccer team in 1998 and 1999 as it prepared for 2000 Summer Olympics. Napoleon was an unutilized alternate for the Olympic team.
