Matthew Aryan Dean Herweg (born January 28, 1993), better known as Matt Hart, is a Canadian professional wrestler. He is a third-generation Hart family wrestler and the son professional wrestler Smith Hart. Hart Hart was the oldest child of Stu Hart and Helen Hart. Hart has fought extensively in independent wrestling in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Hart is the first family member to complete the Canadian Death Tour. Hart regularly performs for Hart Legacy Wrestling promotions with his family. Hart was featured in Hart Still Beating, 2016.
Hart Still Beating, a Telus documentary about Hart Still Beating, was created in 2016. It featured Herweg’s childhood, the death of his mother, and their attempts to get closer through professional wrestling.
Hart began wrestling for Real Canadian Wrestling in 2015. He wrestle for the promotions charity show in June that year. In 2017 Hart won his first championship, catching the RCW Tag Team Championship together with tag-team partner D. Dwight Davis as part of the group Hard To Kill. In 2018 Hart was given his uncle Dynamite Kid (Tom Billington)s’ robe by his aunt Michelle Billington infor a match of the Smith Hart Memorial Tournament. He later got involved in a major storyline with Real Canadian Wrestling’s top heel wrestler, Heavy Metal, after he destroyed Harts trophy for winning the Smith Hart Memorial Tournament and destroyed Smiths final letter to his children before Matt could read it. During RCWs collaboration with Impact Wrestling Hart had a feuded with Raj Singh, the son of a Gama Singh who wrestled for Harts grandfather, the feud was popular and heated up the promotion. In January 2020 Hart captured his first singles championship when he won the RCW British Commonwealth Championship. Hart lost the title on March 7th 2020 to his former tag-team partner Davis.
After his mother’s death, Herweg was separated from his father’s family. He reconnected with them through professional wrestling and decided to return to the sport as soon as possible. Matthew was taught by his father, Teddy Hart, and Harry Smith, his cousins. In 2012, he debuted for Stampede Extreme Sports, his family’s promotion. It was celebrating the 100th anniversary Calgary Stampede. He wrestled Teddy and Harry in his first match. He would also appear at Stampede Wrestling events with his cousins Tory Hart Jr. and Bruce Hart Jr. Matt began to wrestle in Mecca Pro Wrestling in Ontario in March. By August, he had fought against KC Andrews, who was the Big West Wrestling Television Championship Champion. He was a tag team wrestler for Thrash Wrestling in September. His partner betrayed him and he became the inaugural Trash Wrestling Tag Team Champion. Hart was the Hart family’s first participant in the “Canadian Death Tour” in 2016. Hart traveled to the United Kingdom in 2017 to wrestle.

Herweg was the son of Liane Reiger Herweg, a Native American and German descendant, and Smith Hart, in 1993. Herweg’s father, Stu Hart, is from a family of Ulster Scots and Irish heritage. Herweg is also of Greek and Irish descent through Helen Hart, his paternal grandmother. His older half-brother Michael, who is also a professional wrestler, and his three half-siblings, Tanya, Chad, and Tobi, are from his father’s side. Steven, his foster brother, is also his father’s. He shares his middle name Dean with Chad, his younger brother. This middle name is in memory of Dean Hart, his uncle who died in 1990. His first name is also shared with Matthew Annis, his cousin who died. Herweg’s father and mother divorced before he was born, but they shared custody. He and his father lived in Calgary’s attic with their father. He and his father attended WWF Monday Night RAW 2001 to remember Owen, his uncle who had died two year earlier. Herweg lost his mother on his thirteenth Birthday on January 28, 2006. Canadian authorities placed him in foster care after he deemed his father’s career unstable. His father’s long-time partner, Stacey Olaszak took Herweg into her care. Herweg was a stonemason apprentice. Herweg is a Hart descendant and has many relatives in the wrestling industry. His cousins Natalie Neidhart (Harry Smith), Teddy Hart, Torrin Hart Jr., Torrin Hart Jr., Torrin Hart Jr., and Torrin Hart Jr. are all in the ring, while Lindsay Hart is an Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling personality.
Hart made his debut on the 2012 sneak peak of the promotion, but was forced to withdraw from wrestling for a year due to injury. Hart returned to the promotion in January 2013, and he was a regular performer until 2019.
Hart began working for the Canadian Wrestling’s Elite by 2016. By September that year Hart wrestled his first world champion in Magnus who held the GFW Global Championship for Global Force Wrestling. In 2017 Hart headlined the tribute show for his father Smith Hart for the promotion, he wrestled with his cousins-in-law “Dynamite” Dan and “Pistol” Pete Wilson. Hart won the match with the Sharpshooter, a move which is deeply connected to his family’s history.
