Mathew Head (born 9 May 1982) is an Australian former professional footballer who played during the decade 2000 and 2010 as a halfback for St. George Illawarra Dragons, Wests Tigers and Hull F.C.
Head signed a contract in the month of August 2008. Head accepted a contract with the Dragons in 2009. After being signed to by St George Illawarra, Head was typically placed in the St George Illawarra’s junior team that is the Shellharbour Dragons, in the position of halfback, or five-eighth instead of first grade. The contract for the Dragons was not renewed, and the club then reverted him with his team of juniors Dapto Canaries and became their captain coach for the 2010 season.
In 2007 Head joined Hull F.C. until the end of the season, in an effort to assist the club in reaching the Super League play-offs which they beat in the second round of play-offs by Wigan Warriors.

Head began his professional league debut in 2003. He made his debut as a grade player in round 3 on the 29th of March 2003. Head had been the 2004 St. George Illawarra Dragons season’s leading point-scorer. The career of Head was plagued by frequent knee injuries. He left the club towards the end 2007.
The month of November 2007 was the time that Head announced his intention to return. following declaring his intention to return in Australia, Head was signed by the Wests Tigers on a one-year contract. Injuries and fitness levels also restricted his playing time during the 2008 campaign.
Head was the Balmain Tigers SG Ball head coach between 2013 and 2015, winning the SG Ball in 2013 and the under 20’s coach for the St George Illawarra Dragons club in 2016. In 2017, he was the Illawarra RLFC coach in the NSW Cup. In 2019, Head was coach of the St. George Illawarra Dragons Canterbury Cup team that won the minor premiership.
