Then, on the 9th of November of that year (1996) she took part in her first and only fight overseas as a professional in which she faced Valerie Henin- Wiet, who was fighting at the Tokyo Bay NK Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Henin had been a world champion in kickboxing, but made her debut as a professional. Despite Almager’s advantage in experience, Henin defeated Almager by an eighth-round knockout, handing her the first loss in professional boxing. Henin went on to win her last fight in her three bouts.
Almager returned to action on August 16, 1997, facing Sherrie Painter in Ruidoso. Almager won this fight by a first-round knockout. On March 23, 1998, she fought Lucia Rijker at the Foxwoods Resort in Ledyard, Connecticut, losing by a first-round knockout.
Despite that defeat, she was given a shot at recovering her WIBF world Super Welterweight title three months later, and on August 21, 1998, Almager regained the title by knocking out 8-1 Gina Nicholas in the second round at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
On the 20th of April 1995, in the Aladdin Hotel and Casino, she took on Deirdre’ Nelson, who made her debut in professional boxing for women on the same night. They were battling to defend the WIBF’s vacant World super Welterweight title. Almager was crowned world champion after taking Nelson out in just two rounds.

The 5th of February, 1993 was the day that the 24-year-old Almager had her first professional debut in boxing by beating Angela Adger by a fourth-round technical knockout in Dallas, Texas. Then, she was able to make her Las Vegas boxing debut when she took on the 3-0-1 Helga Risoy in The Silver Nugget hotel exactly one year and four days later than her first fight on February 9 in 1994. She scored a knockout in the first round over previously undefeated Risoy.
A rematch against Risoy was scheduled for April 2nd, 1994 at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. The second is the first time Almager took on Risoy with a third- round knockout. She then faced the the future world champion from Ireland, Deirdre Gourty on July 22 in the Aladdin. Almager was victorious in a six- round, unanimous decision.
She then faced Gina Guidi in a non-title affair, March 23, 1996, beating the until then undefeated (3-0) Guidi by a six-round split decision. On July 27, 1996 at El Paso, Texas, Almager had the first of two mismatches in a row, facing 0-2 Jackie Rodgers and winning by second-round technical knockout. She then faced 0-1 Sharon Taylor on September 16, at Arizona Charlie’s in Las Vegas, beating Taylor by a first-round knockout.
