In 1968, he represented Great Britain at the Olympics in Mexico City in five swimming disciplines: 100 m 200 m butterfly 200 meters, 400 m in a single Medley, and in the 4×100 Medley relay of 100 meters. He took home an Olympic silver medal at the 200m butterfly, with two minutes 9.0 seconds, a second behind Carl Robie of the United States.
The ASA National British Championships he took home the title of 110 yards in 1998 1969, 1970 and 1968 The 220 yard butterfly championship four times during 1967, 1968, 1969 , and 1970, and the 1999 200-metre freestyle championship. He also took home the 220 yard Medley title in 1968 and 1969, as well as the title of 440 yards in 1968, 1969 and 1970.
