He participated in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders. He currently serves in the role of a player development coach in the New York Islanders organization.
In July of 2006 as a free agent Reasoner signed a two-year deal to join Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton Oilers. After the expiration of his contract on July 17, 2008. Reasoner agreed to sign a new contract to Atlanta’s Atlanta Thrashers. On June 24, 2010, Reasoner (along with the Thrashers firstpick (24th in the overall rankings) and second-round selections in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (used to pick Joey Crabb and Jeremy Morin respectively)) was transferred for the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Dustin Byfuglien Ben Eager, Brent Sopel and Akim Aliu. A month later on the 22nd of July 2010 due to the salary cap restrictions within the Blackhawks organisation, Reasoner was traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for center Jeff Taffe. Following the Panthers swapped Captain Bryan McCabe, Reasoner was appointed an assistant captain.

When he was a kid, Reasoner played in the 1990 and 1991 Quebec International Pee Wee Hockey Tournaments along with an ice hockey minor squad that was based in Rochester, New York.
Reasoner was chosen as the 1st round pick of the NHL Entry Draft, 14th overall from the St. Louis Blues. The selection came after 2 years playing high-school hockey for McQuaid Jesuit High School. two years in Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts and three years at Boston College (BC), where he was awarded”Rookie of the Year” during his freshman year and was named All- American during his junior season, in which he led the Eagles hockey team through an appearance in the NCAA finals. He played with BC famous players Andy Powers and Brian Gionta. Reasoner divided his time between 1998 and 2001 with his team the Blues and their most important minor league affiliate that is the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League (AHL). He was a part of the AHL in 2003 and won the honor of being an active player on the IceCats 10-year anniversary All-Time Team.
On July 1, 2011, Reasoner signed a two-year contract with the New York Islanders.
