Wotton (born on 16 November 1973) is an Canadian retired defenceman of ice hockey playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars. Wotton was raised in Foxwarren, Manitoba.
In 2004 Wotton joined Russia in 2004 with SKA Saint Petersburg. He spent an entire year in Russia prior to going back in North America, signing with the Washington Capitals. After the 2005-06 season in the Hershey Bears, the Capitals’ AHL farm club, He signed with the New York Islanders organization for the 2006-07 season. He was later appointed captain and assigned to Islanders’ Islanders’ AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Wotton quit the Canucks organization in 1999 in order to join The Dallas Stars. He spent 5 seasons with the Stars organization, but he played just one NHL game during 2001. However, he was highly regarded for his work at the farm as well as his working with the younger players.

Thought to be small for an NHL defensive player, Wotton was selected 237th overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks. Despite his draft rank being low, Wotton improved his stock significantly over the following seasons due to his clever performance in the position, his leadership and a strong work ethics. In 1994-95, when he became a pro period, he scored 41 goals for his team in the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League and get an invitation to play in the final game of the season for the Canucks. He also played in five playoff games for the team. His season ended due to the heels of St. Louis Blues winger Glenn Anderson which detached his retina.
Wotton was granted an extended test for Wotton would be given an extended audition with the Canucks in 1996-97. He would play predominantly as a regular during the second part of the season and scoring 9 points and 3 goals during 36 matches. Wotton would make the Canucks roster at the end of training camp in 1997-98 however, a change in the coaching would affect his chances as the his new Canuck head coach Mike Keenan decided to go in a different direction, using stronger, bigger players like Jamie Huscroft and Enrico Ciccone. Wotton was returned to the AHL which he played in for two more seasons.
Wotton has appeared 43 career NHL games, scoring 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points. He has also made more than 800 appearances in the American Hockey League in his 16-year professional career. He retired in 2012.
