Mark Taufua is the second oldest brother of Feiloivao Lilomaiava Taulave (Lave/Larry) Taufua, who is the Paramount Chief of Faleatiu, A’ana, Samoa. The father of Taufua was also a heavy Boxer of Weight in New Zealand during the late 70s. His alias”Prince Tattoo” was “Prince Tattoo” (due to his customary Samoan tattoo that is known as Tatau or Pe’a). It was his mother Lulu Sapaea Faofua (Taufua) of Laulii passed away in the year 1996 from cancer.

On June 7, 2011, Taufua was signed by Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. Cronulla- Sutherland Sharks for 2 years beginning in 2012.

In April 2013 he played for Samoa in their Pacific Rugby League International against fierce pacific rivals Tonga.

After playing in junior rugby league with Maitland Pickers for the Woodberry Warriors Taufua shifted to union rugby, playing with The Waratahs in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union competition. He was an Newcastle as well as NSW Country rugby union representative when, in the year 2006 Brian Smith, the Knights coach at the time, came across his name. After making his debut in the NRL in the middle of 2007 at the age of 25 Taufua’s progress continued. In 2008 an article in the Newcastle Herald article dubbed the player “The Samoan stealth bomber” due to “teeth-rattling tackles and bone-jarring charges” against the Melbourne Storm, and in 2009, he was in every game played for Newcastle aside from their first-round defeat in the first round to Gold Coast Titans. The Samoan only missed a few games in 2010 due to injuries.

His younger brother, Larry Jr was a member of Newcastle Knights in the Jersey Flegg Cup. Newcastle Knights in the Jersey Flegg Cup in 2006 and 2007.
