Mark Elliott Jelks (born April 10 1984) is an American track and field athlete , who is a specialist in the 100-meter sprint. Jelks has a personal record of 9.99 seconds in the race and was a representative of an entire team from the United States at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. As of 2014, Jelks changed his status of eligibility for him to compete as a representative of Nigeria internationally. He represented his country in the 2013 Commonwealth Games.
He started the indoor season in great form and won the 60-meter race in Dusseldorf with an average of 6.56 seconds. However, he was banned from competition for an infraction to doping in April. He was not able to inform authorities at the United States Anti-Doping Agency of his current location on three occasions over the course of 18 months and, in accordance with World Anti-Doping Agency rules he was suspended for two years, that ran from August 2010 until 2012.
Mark Jelks switched allegiance to Nigeria in 2014. He announced his arrival in June 2014 by winning the Nigerian national championships in the 100 metres. The boy was born in Gary, Indiana, he was a track and field athlete at a young age, and during his time at the Gary’s West Side High School he became a four- time high-school All-American. In 2005, he was able to qualify for six events in the high school state championships. He was able to compete in all relay and sprint events, as in the high jump as well. After high school, he attended classes in Texas Christian University then Kansas City Kansas Community College.
