Following the season DeJohn was a part of his first season in St. Louis Cardinals organization as the full-time skipper of the minor leagues. Except for the 1992 season when DeJohn was back in Detroit to lead the Double-A London Tigers of the Eastern League DeJohn has been a part of the St. Louis organization since as minor league manager (1986-91 2002-09) as well as Field coordinator of training (1993-95) as well as a the coach for Tony LaRussa’s Major League staff with the Cardinals during his first six years in the role of Redbird manager (1996-2001). In 2010, he was appointed as the field coordinator of instruction for the Cardinals and is still in that position as of the year 2018.
The first time DeJohn was a coach, he began within the Detroit minor league system . He began his management career in the year 1985. He was one of four managers hired in Detroit’s Double-A Birmingham Barons affiliate.

Formerly a shortstop player, DeJohn was selected to the New York Mets in the 23rd round of the amateur draft in 1971 following his graduation of Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown. He was a part of the Mets farm system, and three seasons with Triple-A Tidewater Tides, before becoming an unrestricted free agent prior to the start of 1978.
He joined the Detroit Tigers, who gave DeJohn his first Major League trial at the beginning of the 1982 season. DeJohn was in the lineup for 24 games, with eight of them as the shortstop who started.
