Mark Anthony Cundari (born April 23rd in 1990) is an Canadian professional hockey player. He currently plays in the EC VSV EC VSV in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL). In his junior years Cundari was part of the two Memorial Cup championship teams with the Windsor Spitfires before turning professional in the year 2010. On July 2nd, 2015 Cundari was released from the Flames team as a free agent, signing an one-year, two-way deal to the San Jose Sharks. In the 2015-16 season Cundari did not have the opportunity to build on his previous performance in his debut season with the Sharks organization. Cundari scored just 8 points over the course of 34 games for the San Jose Barracuda before he was transferred from the Sharks to the Lake Erie Monsters, an affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets, for the remainder of the season on the 7th of March the 7th of March, the 7th of March, 2016. Cundari played in seven regular season games for the Monsters prior to suffering an injury that kept out the rest of the season.
Cundari single season in Berlin during the 2018–19 campaign was cut short through injury, limited to just 14 games for 7 points. As a free agent in the off-season, Cundari continued his tenure in the DEL, securing a one-year contract with Krefeld Pinguine on May 21, 2019.
After his departure from hockey juniors, Cundari turned professional within the Blues organization when he was a member of the team’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate known as known as the Peoria Rivermen. He scored 30 points over 69 games during the 2011-11 AHL season, and then scored 15 points in 49 games during the 2011-12 season. In the third season of his stay with Peoria, Cundari was named to participate during the AHL All-Star game, where Cundari scored an assist, and, following an infringement of the rules He became one of the players in the past eight years to be penalized in the game. Cundari was transferred with Calgary’s Calgary Flames in an April 1st, 2013 deal with the Blues together with goalie Reto Berra, as well as a 1st round draft selection (which they later Flames later utilized to select Emile Poirier from the Gatineau Olympiques) in exchange for defenseman Jay Bouwmeester. Cundari was a four-season player in major junior hockey for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) between 2006 and 2010. He played in 248 games during that span scoring 30 goals with 133 points, and accumulated five53 penalties minutes. A defensive player, Cundari was eligible for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft but went not selected due to his diminutive size. Cundari was selected by the St. Louis Blues invited him to their training camp in the summer. They then, after he attended the training camps prior the 2008-09 season, they signed Cundari on a contract prior to returning Cundari with the Spitfires. Cundari as well as the Spitfires have won successive OHL championships in 2009-2010 and 2008-09. during both seasons, they were crowned the Memorial Cup as Canadian Hockey League champions.
The Flames have recalled Cundari at the end of 2013-13’s season. Cundari first made his NHL debut on the 21st of April in 2013, scoring his first goal in the game against Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom. He was in the lineup for four games for Calgary and scored two assists along his 28 point total in the AHL which was split with Peoria as well as Abbotsford. Cundari did not impress the Flames coaches during preparation camp before the start of 2013-14, and was moved to Abbotsford for the start of the season. Cundari was further thrown out of favor by midseason and was later assigned by the Chicago Wolves, AHL affiliate of the Blues. However, after scoring 13 points during his initial 22 games with the Wolves as he played in every defensive position, Cundari was recalled by Calgary to play in the final game during this NHL season.
As an impending free agent, Cundari left the NHL to sign his first contract abroad in agreeing to a one-year deal with German DEL club, Augsburger Panther on June 9, 2016. After two seasons with the Panthers, Cundari left at the completion of his contract opting to continue with the DEL on a one-year pact with Eisbären Berlin on June 13, 2018.
