Leovac was born in Jajce in the present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was once an integral part of SFR Yugoslavia. He is a dual citizen of Austria as well as Croatia. He is eligible for all three nations at international football. He chose to join the Croatia national team and made his debut in 2014.

He played full 90 minutes in his debut for the national team on November 12, 2014, in a friendly game against Argentina. On 27 October 2016, Leovac was called up in his motherland’s national squad, after more than 13 months, ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Iceland. On 15 November 2016, he was a starter in a friendly away match against Northern Ireland.

In 2013-2014, he was instrumental in helping Austria Wien reach UEFA Champions League group stage, where He scored the first goal in a 0-2 victory against Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in Champions League Play-off game played in Zagreb. He was part of four teams during the 2013-14 Champions League Group G.

Leovac began his professional career with the club in July of 1997. He was with the Austrian Football Association.
