Marie-Pierre Duros is one of the most popular and richest Athletics Competitor who was born on June 7, 1967 in Saint-Brieuc, Brittany, France. Marie-Pierre Duros (born 7 June 1967) is a French former long- distance and middle distance runner , who was a specialist in the 3000m. Her personal record time of 8:38.97 minutes in the race is a prior French record that ran from 1989 until 1999. She was two-time Olympian (1988 as well as 1992) and three times a participant in the World Championships in Athletics (1987 1991, 1987, and 1995).
A performance during the 90 European Athletics Championships saw her finish the 3000m heats, but not finish the race at the end of the race. This was her sole performance at the European competition. She won the Cross Du Figaro in December in the year. Another French record was set for Duros in February 1991 in which she ran the indoor 3000 meters in a time at 8:53.94 minutes. Duros took the French cross-country title at the beginning of March, and it proved to be an excellent preparation for the IAAF World Indoor Championships held the following weekend. Duros overcame the competition and took home the title of the world’s indoor champion for the 3000m race in a faster French indoor record that was 8:50.69 minutes. Duros was the first French gold medallist at the event in its entirety (Gerard Lelievre was the winner in the pre-eminent in 1985 IAAF World Indoor Games). In the outdoor competition, she took home the French title, and was also crowned in the DN Galan in Stockholm – her time of 8:40.76 minutes placed her in eighth place worldwide in the year. The French athlete was not able to take her winning form to the final of the 1991 World Championships in Athletics, however, finishing to last by a difference of more than 15 seconds. She won her third and last career victory in the Cross Du Figaro at the close of the year.
The 1992 season was her last as a contender at international level. She came 29th at the 1992 IAAF World Cross Country Championships (the declining French women were ninth in the team rankings). She won a fourth and final national title over 3000 m, and a run of 8:40.38 minutes in Nice (the second fastest of her career) placed her sixth in the year’s world rankings. This brought her selection for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. There she opened with one of her best international performances by running a time of 8:42.32 minutes to qualify as the fastest of the heats stage. She did not replicate this in the final and dropped out before completing 3000 m (her second consecutive Olympic failure to finish). She was also entered in the 1500 m competition and had the best time of her career for that distance in the heats (4:10.14 minutes). She was well off this pace in the semi-finals, finishing dead last in her race.
Duros was back on grass at the start of 1989. She was also the winner of her first race, the Cross Ouest-France. Her performance at the top of the podium of the 1989 IAAF World Cross Country Championships was lower than her previous year’s (she placed 32nd) However, she was part of a solid French team, led by the world’s champion Sergent, Martine Fays and Maria Lelut took the silver medals at the team competition. The individual success was on the track , as she placed third in the 3000m race at the Athletissima race prior to setting the new French records for the distance of 8:38.97 seconds for the race in Nice. The time was the record of France for more than a decade , and she was at the third spot in world ranking in that year in the world rankings, just behind Paula Ivan and Yvonne Murray. Alongside this her middle-distance successes, she also won with a national championship over 1500m as well as winning over that distance during the European Cup “B” Final.
