Rodina started her career in the ITF Circuit with the assistance of a wildcard in the initial game of the principal draw in an event worth $25k in Moscow in the latter part of August 2004 when she was only fifteen and a half and was able to justify the award by winning a set against rising rival Russian player Elena Vesnina, though she was defeated in three.

In early November, she entered a $50k tournament at Minsk, and after edging past a little-known fellow Russian in round one she successively defeated Viktoriya Kutuzova of Ukraine 7–6, 6–3, Aravane Rezaï of France 6–4, 6–3, and Ekaterina Dzehalevich of Belarus 6–2, 4–6, 6–4, to reach her career-first $50k final, having never previously made it past the quarterfinals at or above this level of event.
