Marianne Meed Ward (born January 4 in 1996) was an American Canadian journalist and politician. Meed Ward received the honour of being elected the mayor for Burlington, Ontario in the municipal election in 2018. Meed Ward became the first mayor female of Burlington since Marry Munro’s election in 1978.

Meed Ward was in the race against incumbent two-term Rick Goldring. Meed Ward was a campaigner for stopping the overdevelopment of Burlington particularly downtown. She also campaigned to address the issue of traffic congestion, flood risk and protecting the city’s tree canopy as well as tax reform, and creating trust between the community and the council. Meed Ward came out on top in the 2018 municipal election by securing 23,360 votes, and 46.04 percent of the vote.

Meed Ward began his political career when he ran for Ward 1 during the municipal election of 2006, defeating Rick Craven. In 2007 Meed Ward was his Ontario Liberal Party candidate for Burlington and came in second place in the race to PC Candidate Joyce Savoline by only 1824 votes. She also received 37.81 percent of the votes. After 2007, Meed Ward returned to journalistic work before choosing to run municipally. After moving to the city’s downtown Burlington (Ward 2,) Meed Ward ran for municipal council once more in 2010 to defeat the incumbent Peter Thoem. She was elected again in 2014, then ran to be mayor for the 2018 election and defeated the incumbent Rick Goldring.

She also then covering the 905-area in the Greater Toronto Area. She resigned from her post to run in the election in 2010.
