Maria Dunn is one of the most popular and richest Amateur Wrestler who was born on March 6, 1986 in Scotland, United Kingdom. She studied classical piano as a child and psychology at the University of Alberta. She hosted a weekly folk radio program on U of A’s campus/community radio station, CJSR, from 1987 to 2000. She became a fan of folk music and began to write her own songs.
Six albums have been released, including two Juno-nominated recordings Gathering (2017) and For a Song (2002). Maria can be seen performing solo, duo, or trio at festivals, folk clubs and conferences across Canada, the USA, and Europe. Her songs have been published in Sing Out!, CBC National Radio and CKUA Radio Alberta. She was also featured in Penguin Eggs magazine (2015) and Rise Again (songbook). Her original songs have been recorded by other artists such as Niamh Parsons, The Outside Track (Poor Lonesome Hen), Aengus Finan (Orphan Hand), Bob Bossin and We Were Good People.
Her 2012 album Piece by Piece tells the story of immigrants working in textiles in Canada, particularly at the GWG factory in Edmonton. These songs were composed for the multimedia show GWG: Piece By Piece, which was developed in collaboration by Don Bouzek and Catherine C. Cole. The Royal Alberta Museum hosted an early performance in 2009.
