Prawda studied sociology and economics at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of The Polish Academy of Science. He received a degree from the University of Leipzig in 1979 and a doctorate in sociology in 1984. He worked at the Polish Academy of Science from 1979 to 1990. Solidarity was his affiliation.
He began his diplomatic career in 1992 as the First Secretary of the Embassy of Poland, Bonn, Germany. He was Director of the Secretariat for the Minister of Foreign Affairs between 2000 and 2005.
In February 2016, Prawda ended his term. In April 2016, he was appointed by Jean-Claude Juncker as Head of the European Representation in Warsaw.
