At the start of the 2012–13 season, Trotta signed a new deal which would keep him at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2015. He was called into the first team squad on one occasion during the 2012–13 season, when he was an unused substitute for a 3–0 win over West Bromwich Albion on 15 September 2012. Trotta scored the winner in a crunch match versus Leyton Orient on 15 March, firing in the only goal of the game in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Brisbane Road, which saw the Bees return to the automatic promotion places in League One.
