Denis was thus made a free agent and signed a contract on July 3rd 2008 with the Montreal Canadiens. Marc Denis was then assigned to Montreal’s AHL affiliate the Hamilton Bulldogs, after training camp. Denis was recalled by the Canadiens as an injury replacement throughout the season. He appeared in one game for the Canadiens, when he replaced Jaroslav Halak in the third period of a 4-1 defeat to the New Jersey Devils.

Denis was traded to Tampa Bay Lightning on June 30, 2006 for Fredrik Modin, and Fredrik Norrena. Denis was waived by the Lightning in 2007-08 season due to his inconsistent and sub-par play. After clearing waivers, Denis was sent to the Lightning’s AHL affiliate the Norfolk Admirals. Denis was later recalled by the Lightning from Norfolk on March 26, 2008. Denis took over for Jonathan Boutin as goalie, who had been recalled by the Admirals due to Mike Smith’s injury to his left ankle. Denis was purchased by the Lightning after the season. He was done on June 25, 2008.
