Lura was born to Cape Verdean parents and was raised in Portugal. Her father was from Santiago, and her mother was from Santo Antao. She initially wanted to be a dancer and a swimming instructor. At seventeen, Juka, a musician from Sao Tome/Principe, asked her to sing with him a duet for a music album. She was a part of many productions, including those by Tito Paris, Bonga, Paulo Flores, Paulino Vieira, and Tito Paris.

In 2009, she released Eclipse (pronunciation is ek-LEE’psee). A year later, her compilation album Best Of was released on DVD. It also included an unrecorded single called “Moda Bo”, a duet with Cesaria Elvora. The concert, which took place at Teatro Virginia, Torres Novas in Portugal, featured her performance with the Voz de Africa batuque dancers (batucadeiras).

She released M’bem Di fora in 2006. On 7 November 2006, she performed at Lisbon’s Teatro Tivoli. Later, she toured to concerts in Turkey and Australia. She sang the song Morna, which she wrote in 2007, in Fados, a Spanish film directed by Carlos Saura.
