Luke Williamson is one of the most popular and richest Rugby League Player who was born on June 2, 1978 in Strathpine, Queensland, Australia. Henry Williamson’s son Luke Williamson was a Queensland representative in 1971. He later played for Newtown in 1973-74. He is also the nephew to former Innisfail and Newtown, Qld and New South Wales winger Lionel Williamson.
Williamson signed with Mal Meninga-coached Canberra Raiders after the Rams folded. The Rams had their season launch in February 1999, but News Limited, the owners of Super League and the Australian Rugby League, pulled the plug days later. This was part of the NRL peace agreement. His 14-year career was marked by his most successful season with Canberra. After David Furner’s retirement, he played in 20 games on the Wing and at Centre. He scored 174 points and 74 goals.
The Northern Eagles, who had been formed as the result of an unhappy merger between long time rivals the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and the North Sydney Bears, folded after the 2002 season with the licence falling back to more financially stable Manly-Warringah. Williamson then signed with Manly where he would spend the rest of his playing career in Australia.
Luke Williamson played 16 games for the Northern Eagles in the 2002 NRL season. After playing his first three games from the bench, he would play the rest of the season at Five-eighth and again was the club’s top scorer with 98 points from 3 tries and 45 goals.
After a string of outstanding performances by the Adelaide Rams Under-19s team in 1997, Rod Reddy, Rams’ first grade coach selected Williamson to make his 18th grade debut for the Rams. This was in a 16-12 victory over the Auckland Warriors at Ericsson Stadium in Auckland in round 4 1997 of the Super League season. He was a centre player and scored a late goal that sealed the Rams’ first ever away victory. With 70 points in 12 games, he would be the Rams’ top scorer with 29/37 goals. He added another 17 games and 44 points to his total in the 1998 NRL season. Williamson, who still holds the record for Rams point scoring with 114 points after the 1998 season, was two shy of Graham Appo. His 45 goals are the club’s record total.
