Lawton was signed to Indianapolis Colts practice squad on November 29, 2006. Lawton remained with the practice squad throughout the 2006 season and was re- signed February 14, 2007. Lawton made his debut for the Colts in 2007’s season-opener. He was released on October 29th and resigned on October 31. Later in the season, he was released and re-signed on November 28. In week thirteen’s second meeting between the Colts & Jacksonville Jaguars, he caught his first touchdown pass by Peyton Manning. It was in the fourth quarter. It was the game-winning touchdown that won the AFC South division title for Indianapolis.

Lawton was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles on June 6, 2008 in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He was released on August 23, and the Eagles did not have to give up a draft pick to the Colts due to his release from the team.

Lawton signed a new contract with the New York Giants in 2005. On August 22, 2005, he suffered a fractured nose and had to have surgery. He was released on August 29.

He was suspended for the last two games of the 2009 season and the first two games of the 2010 season. On September 21, 2010, however, as soon as the suspension was lifted, the Raiders released him.
