Lucia Newman is one of the most popular and richest Journalist who was born on February 18, 1952 in London, England, United Kingdom. Newman, a child of Chilean and US parents, was born in London on 18 February 1952. To make it easier for the Russian government, all diplomats and foreign journalists were accommodated at the Metropol Hotel, Moscow when they met. Lucia Meza was her mother and Joseph Newman was her father. Walter Cronkite introduced them, and acted as matchmaker. They would not have married if Cronkite hadn’t intervened on the behalf of her father, as her mother stated. Both were avid writers about foreign affairs throughout their lives. Her father for criticising the regime, and her mother for breaking diplomatic relations with Chile meant that both her parents had to leave Moscow. The couple moved to Berlin as Bureau Chief of the New York Herald Tribune for three years and then to London where Lucia and her sisters were born. After three years living in Buenos Aires, the family moved to New York. Joseph Newman was a journalist at the United Nations. He wrote his own column on the NY Herald Tribune’s editorial page. After an extended strike, the Tribune fell and the family moved to Bronxville in NY. interview foreign and national leaders weekly on the first talk-show in New York, Faces and Places in The News. Lucia moved with her family to Washington, DC, after she finished 7th grade. Her father founded the Book Division at US News & World Report. Lucia moved to Santiago in Chile to study at the University of Chile after graduating from high school.

She was in Panama in 1987. On 16 September, the Panamanian government expelled the woman from the country. A mob saw her smile during an interview with Manuel Noriega. Noriega described her as a “disinformationist”.

In March 1997, Newman became the first United States journalist in 27 years to have permanent residence in Cuba. However, after Newman’s first news broadcast, Ninoska Pérez Castellón criticised her for not interviewing people who were against the Cuban government. Pérez wanted Newman to show Cuba as a “normal place”, not a “rogue nation”.

In 2006, she left CNN for Al Jazeera English, in the run-up to its launch. She has been with the channel ever since. She is now the Latin America editor, based in Buenos Aires in Argentina, but also continues to appear regularly on- air.

From 1985 to 1989, she was a correspondent in Nicaragua and Chile. She also worked in Chile 1989 to 1993. She was the Mexican bureau chief from 1993 to 1997.
