Luhr started the 2001 season by winning the class in the 24 Hours of Daytona. He was driving for White Lightning Racing. He teamed up with Sascha Maassen, Alex Job Racing, in the ALMS. This time, it was again in a 911. They won the 12 Hours of Sebring. However, they had a disappointing season. The BMW M3 GTRs were the dominant team. Luhr and Maassen were 4th in this championship.
For 2003, Luhr continued his winning ways with Maassen and AJR. The duo Sebring for the third straight year, giving Luhr his fourth straight class win, tying him with Bob Holbert for most consecutive class wins. In June, the pair, joined by Emmanuel Collard, captured the GT class at Le Mans. Luhr and Maassen would take 5 wins from 9 races and win the ALMS GT championship for the second straight year.
After a second place at Sebring, Luhr moved to the FIA GT Championship for the 2004 season. He and Maassen won 6 races driving for Friesinger Motorsport and won their third consecutive championship together.
Luhr was a Porsche factory driver during the 1999 season. Luhr won the 1999 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland championship while driving for the UPS Junior Team. He moved to the American Le Mans Series in 2000. He drove a Porsche 911 GT3-R with Dick Barbour Racing, and was partnered with Dirk Muller. In his first season, he won class wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1000km Nurburgring and Race of 1000 Years in Adelaide. He also won the ALMS GT class title.

Luhr was born in Mulheim-Karlich and began his career in karts at the age of 1989. He won numerous karting trophies at both the local and national level in the 1990s. In 1994, he was made a factory driver at the CRG company. He won the European Karting Championship and placed 4th in Karting World Championship. He joined the Jolly Kart factory team in 1995, and competed in the European as well as World championships.
Luhr switched to cars in 1996 and became vice-champion of Germany’s Formula Ford championship. Luhr raced in the German Formula Three Championship 1997 and 1998. He won the Hockenheimring’s 1998 season opening round.
In 2002, Luhr and Maassen dominated the ALMS GT class, winning seven of ten races, including Sebring and Petit Le Mans. Luhr also won the GT class at Le Mans, driving with Kevin Buckler and Timo Bernhard for The Racer’s Group.
