Lucas-Jordan Jeremiah Akins, born 25 February 1989, is an English professional footballer who plays for League One club Burton Albion as a forward and wing-back.

Akins was able to impress in several matches over the two-week trial period with Hamilton Academical in July 2008. Hamilton manager Billy Reid was impressed enough to sign Akins a two-year contract. He also signed a free transfer for the club on 22 July 2008. In Hamilton’s four remaining pre-season fixtures, he scored four more times. Akins made his competitive debut in Hamilton’s first SPL season. He was a substitute in the 67th minute of a home victory over Dundee United at New Douglas Park. This victory marked the end to Hamilton’s 19-year exile in the top flight of Scottish football. Akins was mainly a substitute in the first half, with seven of his 13 appearances from the bench.

In January 2009, Hamilton manager Billy Reid stated his intention to loan out Akins in order for the player to gain more first-team experience. He subsequently signed for Scottish First Division side Partick Thistle on loan for the remainder of the 2008–09 campaign. He made his debut a day after joining the club, coming on as a late substitute in a 2–2 away draw Queen of the South.   1. He played regularly for Partick for the remainder of the season, making nine appearances, and scoring once in a 1–0 win against Greenock Morton in April 2009. He returned to Hamilton at the end of the loan agreement, but ultimately played no part during the 2009–10 season. In May 2010, he was released by Hamilton when his contract expired, along with ten other players.

Following his release by Hamilton, Akins went on trial with Rochdale in July 2010, playing in the club’s 2–0 pre-season friendly win against Rossendale United. No transfer materialised, and Akins took up the offer of a two-week trial with League One side Tranmere Rovers later in the month. The trial proved to be successful, and Akins signed a one-year contract with the club on 24 August 2010. He made his Tranmere debut on the same day his transfer was announced, coming on as an 82nd-minute substitute in a 3–1 home loss to Swansea City in the League Cup. The season turned out to be Akins’ first season of regular football, making 38 appearances during the campaign. He also scored two goals during his first season with the club, both of which came in a 4–0 win over Exeter City on 25 April 2011. Akins’ first goal of the match was a lob from just outside the area, with his second, Tranmere’s fourth of the match, coming when he headed in Adam McGurk’s powerful cross. At the end of the season, in May 2011, Akins was offered a new one-year contract with the club. He ultimately signed the new deal, with the option of a further year, on 29 July 2011. On retaining Akins’ services, Tranmere manager Les Parry stated — “I’m pleased to have sorted Lucas’ contract out and glad he’ll be part of our squad. He was a regular last season and his work ethic was fantastic”.

Akins began his career at Huddersfield Town. He progressed through the youth academy and made his first-team debut in April 2007. He was loaned to Northwich Victoria, Conference Premier club Northwich Victoria, for three months during the 2007-08 season. He was then released by his parent club in the summer 2008. Akins joined Hamilton Academical, a SPL club, on a two year deal in July 2008. Akins was then loaned to Partick Thistle in January 2009 to get more match experience. He did not play for Hamilton the next season and was released in May 2010, after his contract had expired. Akins signed on a free transfer to League One side Tranmere, where he played regularly for two seasons. Akins signed for Stevenage in August 2012 for an undisclosed amount. Akins was a regular fixture in the club’s preseason friendlies. He scored in a win over Mansfield Town one week before the start the new season. In the campaign’s first two months, he made four appearances as a substitute. Akins’ final game was the 4-0 defeat against Walsall on 6 October 2007. Following Andy Ritchie’s departure in April 2008, new Huddersfield manager Stan Ternent told Akins that he would not be offered a new deal when his contract expired in June that year. Akins was consequently released at the end of the season. During his time at Huddersfield, he made six appearances in all competitions.
