The early years (1982-1983) In the early years (1982-? ), Edmonds was a member of 3 Mustaphas 3 “world music” pioneers. He played many instruments under the name Uncle Patrel Mustapha Bin Mustapha. Edmonds and Ben Mandelson were both ex-Mustaphas and formed two trios in 2009. In 2009 Blue Blokes 3, with Ian A. Anderson and released the album Stubble. In 2010, Les Triaboliques was released with Justin Adams and the album Rivermudtwilight. Edmonds was featured on Poets and Lighthouses in 2010, the latest album from Albert Kuvezin, a Tuvan ethnic-rock fusion band Yat Kha. Blabbermouth released 2019’s Horspiel with Edmonds and Mark Roberts (horspiel being German for radio drama or audio play).

Edmonds was first known as a Damned member, where he played guitar on 1977’s Music For Pleasure. He was nicknamed “Lu” by the rest of the group, which is short for “Lunatic”. While he was simply referred to as “Lu” during his time with the Damned band, later bands called him Lu Edmonds (or sometimes “Lu Knee”) and billed him as such. He played with Public Image Ltd, the Spizzles and the Mekons as well as on tracks by the Waterboys or Kirsty McColl. He co- wrote MacColl’s first album songs and was the lead guitarist on “They Don’t Know”, her first single. (Also, Tracey Ullman covered that song).

Edmonds was a guitarist/vocalist with the Edge in 1979. The band also included Jon Moss, the drummer (whom Edmonds met at the Damned and who went on become the drummer in Culture Club), Glyn Havard (who was a member of proto neo-age prog rock gods Jade Warrior), and Gavin Povey, the keyboardist (who later performed with UK virtuoso guitarist Albert Lee, Albert Lee & Hogan’s Heroes).
