In 1981, Iasiello was commissioned Navy Chaplain Lieutenant (Junior grade) in the Naval Reserves. He was then recalled to active service in July 1983. His active duty assignments include: Naval Air Station (Memphis), U.S. Coast Guard (85-86); USS Ranger, Kodiak (85-86); USS Ranger, (CV-61) deployed during Operation Earnest Will and other deployments in Korea and the Persian Gulf (86–87); Second Marine Division (8th Marine Regiment), 2nd Marine Regiment Marine Forces Panama), including two deployments in Norway, Operation Just Cause and Panama with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (MEUSOC) (MEUSOC) (87-90). Other assignments include: U.S. Naval Academy, staff and faculty (91-94); Naval War College Command and Staff (90-91); Joint Task Force 160, Cuba and Haiti (86-87); United States Naval Academy (94); Armed Forces Staff College (94); Assistant Fleet Chaplain (U.S. Atlantic Fleet and Deputy Chaplain (U.S. Atlantic Command (94-97)); Director for Operational Ministry (97-98); and Naval Chaplains School (98-01). After being promoted to flag rank, Iasiello was the first Chaplain Corps flag officer to become a Chaplain of US Marine Corps (00-03). He was a member of the Defense Task Force, and has taught at several military war- and staff college. He was appointed the 23rd Chief Navy Chaplains by the Senate in July 2003. He retired in October 2006, and assumed the presidency of the Washington Theological Union. From 2008 to 2010, Admiral Iasiello was Co-Chair for the Defense Task Force on Sexual Assault within the Military Services. Numerous boards and advisory committees have been served by him, including the Board of Advisors of Institute on Religion and Public Policy. He currently serves on the board of the Franciscan Monastery of the HolyLand in Washington, DC. He is currently Professor of Humanities at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio.

Iasiello was born in Staten Island, New York. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1972 with a bachelor’s in History. He holds graduate degrees from Niagara University (Education), Washington Theological Union(Divinity), Salve Regina College, International Relations (2003), and the Naval War College. He also holds a PhD from Salve Regina University.
Iasiello was ordained into the Order of Friars Minor on August 23, 1973. He is now a member of Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province. He worked in Anapolis Brazil after his deacon ordination. On 13 May 1978, he was ordained as a priest and assigned to a Franciscan church serving the Bronx Hispanic community. The Modern Languages section at Bishop Timon High School, Buffalo, New York was then headed by him.
