Louis Craine Biography

Louis Craine is one of the most popular and richest Killer who was born on January 6, 1957 in Los Angeles, California, United States. Craine was the third child in a four-child family, and was born in Los Angeles on January 6, 1957. He showed signs of intellectual disability early in his school years. After graduating in the fourth grade, he left school and entered into a social conflict that he shared with his family.

Louis was charged with the murder of Carolyn Barney, a 29-year old prostitute. He was arrested May 29, 1987. Her body was found in an unoccupied house near her family, Craine and her brother. The police found the body and noticed Louis behaving inappropriately due to the fact that the area was being closed off. After being taken into custody, he was taken to the station where he was subject to lengthy interrogations. During which time he confessed that a murder had occurred to Barney as well as two other women, Loretta Perry, 24, and Vivian Collins, 18, who were both killed on January 25. Barney and both of these women had been strangled to death and raped.

He accused his family of perjury, pointing out a motive for their act – personal hostility due to their long-term conflict. The lawyers of the defendant insisted that on the basis of various tests, Craine showed signs of intellectual disability, with threshold of intelligence coefficient of 69 points, a tendency to exaggeration and high susceptibility to suggestions. As a result, they requested a forensic psychiatric examination, but their application was rejected. On May 16, 1989, by a jury verdict, he was found guilty of 4 murders and acquitted of Burton’s killing, and on June 6 of that year, the court sentence him to death.

Louis’ trial began in early 1989. The main material evidence was a blood- stained shirt, the group of which coincided with the blood group of one of the victims, as well as testimonies from Craine’s relatives, including his mother, who told the court that Louis had repeatedly expressed aggressive behavior towards prostitutes, and was spotted in a bloodied shirt after one of the murders. Other evidence pointed to him as well, that being his confession of killing Loretta Perry – initially, it was believed that she had died from a drug overdose, but after Louis’ testimony, her body was exhumed and subjected to a thorough pathological study, the results of which validated Craine’s claims.

Craine, during interrogation, claimed that Collins was killed by Roger, his older brother, and Louis who paid her for her services. His version of events was that his brother had strangled Collins during sexual intercourse. However, Roger’s family, including their mother, gave him an alibi on the day of the murder. He was not charged. Craine was later charged with killing Gail Ficklin, 24, and Sheila Burton (both 30, who were murdered on November 18, 1984 and August 15, 1985, respectively). They were also found close to the bodies of other victims, who were all located near Craine’s parents’ house.
