Since 2002, he is Associated Professor of Near Eastern Archaeology and is also the Coordinator of the Oriental Section of Sapienza University of Rome’s Department of Sciences of Antiquities (Faculty of Letters and Philosophy). He was a co-director on several archaeological expeditions to the Near East and Mediterranean. He is currently the Director for Rome “La Sapienza Expedition to Motya (a Phoenician town in Western Sicily) and the Director for Rome “La Sapienza Expedition to Palestine & Jordan. This expedition is conducting systematic excavations at Tell es-Sultan/ancient Jericho, in Palestine, where archaeological work was resumed in 2009. It is also carrying out systematic excavations at Khirbet Al-Batrawy (3rd millennium BC), previously unknown). In collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities he has been conducting archaeological excavations at Tell es-Sheikh Abu Zarad and ancient Tappuah since 2015.
