Shore attended Meadow Creek Christian School, Andover, Minnesota, until he entered 9th grade at Coon Rapids High School, Coon Rapids. After going 9-0 and a 0.27 earned runs average (ERA), Shore was named the Minnesota Gatorade Baseball Player Of The Year. He also had a.429 batting avg. Shore met with the Cleveland Indians to discuss his draft plans. However, the team was unable to afford enough money to take Shore from Florida. Instead, they chose to draft Dace Kim, a University of Louisville pitcher. Shore was eventually selected in the 29th round of the Minnesota Twins professional team. However, he chose to go to school rather than signing.
In 2014, Shore was a freshman at University of Florida and appeared in 16 games. He also made 15 starts. Shore finished the year 7-4, with a 2.16 ERA for the team and 68 strikeouts over 95/3 innings. Perfect Game USA named him the National Freshman Award winner, the SEC Freshman award winner, the third- team All-American and the Freshman All-American for his performance. In 2015, as a sophomore, Shore was the Gators’ Friday starter. He finished with an 11-6 record and 2.72 ERA. There were also 84 strikeouts in 112/3 innings. He also played on the collegiate team of the United States during the summer.
On September 19, 2018, Shore was traded to the Detroit Tigers as the second of two players to be named later in the Mike Fiers trade.
