Liz Knox is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on June 9, 1988 in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, Canada. Liz Knox, a professional retired women’s ice hockey goaltender was born June 9, 1988 in Stouffville (Ontario). She was a member the Canadian women’s ice hockey team which won the gold medal at 2011 Winter Universiade. Knox was 18th in the 2011 CWHL Draft and won the Clarkson Cup in 2017-2018 with the Markham Thunder. Knox is currently a member of the Professional Women’s Hockey Player Association, which was formed in spring 2019 from the fallout of the CWHL’s dissolution.
She was the Thunder’s workhorse goalie almost immediately. She played in 20 of 27 regular-season games and helped Brampton to an impressive 18-7-2 record and third place in the standings. Knox’s notable achievements include her first professional win against Team Alberta on October 29, 2011, and her first shutout against the Boston Blades team on March 4, 2012. This team included many US national team regulars such as Kacey Bellamy, Gigi Marvin, and Kelli Stack.
Knox received a second call from Hockey Canada six months after the gold medal at the 2011 Winter Universiade and competed at the one-off 2011 IIHF 12 Nations Tournament, sharing the Canadian crease with fellow eventual CWHL netminders Geneviève Lacasse and Christina Kessler. The stated goal of the 12 Nations Tournament was to enhance the competitive level of developing women’s hockey countries ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics and accordingly, no medals were awarded. Canada went 4–2–0 in the round-robin-style showcase, with Knox playing twice and winning both of her games. On August 25, 2011, she had an easy outing against Russia, making 15 saves in a 16–1 blowout. Five days later, Knox made 16 stops as Canada pulled off yet another dramatic win over Finland by a 3–2 score. In that contest, Finland carried a 2–1 lead past the halfway point of the third period before goals by Meghan Agosta and Jennifer Wakefield, the latter with 2:00 remaining, flipped the result.
During the round robin stage of the tournament, on January 27, 2011, Knox and Vanhatalo engaged in a classic goaltending duel. Hovi gave the Finns a 1–0 lead midway through the contest before Mariève Provost answered on the power play with 1:29 left in regulation to force overtime. After a scoreless five- minute extra period, things proceeded to a shootout. There, Knox denied all five shooters she faced, including Helin and Sari Kärnä twice each, and Tuominen once. Vanhatalo matched her save for save until Canada’s fifth shooter, Ellie Seedhouse, gave her side the victory. The teams met once again in the gold medal match, although things were a bit less dramatic there, as Canada jumped out to a 3–0 lead early in the second period and cruised to a 4–1 win, helped in part by 20 Knox saves.
Knox was the first Golden Hawks player to win the CIS Player Of The Year award (also known as the Brodrick trophy) on March 10, 2010.

She joined a team that included Morgan Wielgosz, an established goalie. They had won three consecutive Ontario University Athletics championships and the 2004-05 Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) national championship. Knox was a collegiate rookie and played in 12 regular season games. She shared Laurier’s goaltending time with Wielgosz. In a 2-1 win over NCAA Division I Ohio State, Knox made her unofficial debut on September 30, 2006. She then made her official debut two weeks later with 38 saves. Highlights included a 2-1 victory over Queen’s in a battle between teams ranked among the top five national on November 4, 2006. Knox stopped a Golden Gaels penalty shot and Laurier’s Laurissa Kendall scored the winning goal 13 seconds later. Three weeks later, Knox won her first career shutout against Windsor. Wielgosz received the majority of the work during the OUA playoffs and CIS playoffs. Knox saw action only three times in the postseason – briefly during an OUA championship victory (Laurier’s fourth consecutive league title), while Wielgosz dealt with an equipment problem, then more importantly in relief during a loss at the University of Alberta, which eliminated the Golden Hawks form contention for the CIS national championship. Finally, during a CIS third place game loss to University of Manitoba.
Knox was the regular starter in her second year. This status would remain with Laurier for the remainder of her career. Knox recovered from a disappointing loss to Guelph in the first season of her WLU career. She would lose just seven regular season decisions throughout her entire WLU career. Knox then went on a string of shutouts, including five against a nationally-ranked University of Toronto. These shutouts were part a 14-game Laurier streak that lasted until December 29th 2007 against McGill University. Knox and WLU recovered from that defeat, however, and posted a 25-3-2 regular-season record. The goalie also had a 0.945 save rate and a 0.97 goals against average.
Following graduation, Knox was selected 18th overall in the 2011 CWHL Draft by the Brampton Thunder, part of a fruitful class for the team that also included Courtney Birchard, Tara Gray and Vicki Bendus.
