Liu was a great player during his prime (1996-1999), and he played with Mark V on his backhand and TSP Spinpips forehand. However, he was still using the Stiga Clipper blade. In 2000, Spinpip rubbers were banned and Spinpip MD was introduced the following year. Both were banned due to the aspect ratio (ratio between pips height and width), and the structure and arrangement of the pip. This made the rubber spinny and unpredictable and was considered too advantageous. It is not known if Liu ever used Stiga rubbers in competition.
