Li Jiawei is one of the most popular and richest Table Tennis Player who was born on August 9, 1981 in Beijing, Singapore. After losing three matches to China, Li and her team won Singapore a silver medal for women’s table tennis. Li won the first match of her singles match but was defeated by Zhang Yining, her Beijing Sports School former teammate. China’s Zhang Yue and Guo Yue defeated Singapore’s Li Yuegu and Wang Yuegu in the doubles match. This was the first Olympic medal that Singapore has won since 1965, when it became independent. This medal was awarded 48 years after Tan Howe Liang, who won the first medal in weightlifting at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong asked that the English- language live broadcast of his National Day Rally speech be delayed by one day. This was because it coincided with the table tennis semifinals. He updated the audience on the score and called Tan Eng Liang (Team Singapore’s chef de missions) to thank the team.
Li was ranked 18th in the world 2000 and won gold medals in women’s singles, mixed doubles, and women’s teams at the XVII Commonwealth Games in Manchester. She was also ranked eighth in November 2002. In December 2003, Li was part of the Singapore team that won the top awards at 23rd Southeast Asian Games for women’s team, mixed doubles, women’s doubles, and women’s singles.
At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Li won gold for the women’s team and women’s doubles, and the silver medal for the women’s singles and mixed doubles events. Subsequently, she won the women’s singles at the ITTF Pro Tour Russia Open. She also achieved third place in the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals and the Women’s World Cup, which are two of the most prestigious and difficult competitions in the table tennis arena. At the 15th Asian Games held from 29 November to 7 December 2006 in Doha, Qatar, she achieved three medals: a silver for the women’s team event and two bronzes for the women’s singles and mixed doubles. The next year, she won gold in the singles at the ITTF Pro Tour Chinese Taipei Open in Taipei, and helped Singapore to the top spots in the women’s team and mixed doubles events at the 2007 SEA Games in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), Thailand.
On 26 September 2008, Li registered a marriage in Beijing with Li Chao, a businessman based in that city; they were introduced by a mutual friend in March 2008. Sources quoted by The Straits Times said Li had long wanted her children to bear her surname. A lavish wedding banquet was held at the Beijing Hotel on 25 April 2009. On 13 October 2009, she and her husband had their first child, a boy weighing 3.575 kilograms (7.88 lb).
Li met fellow Olympian Ronald Susilo, a Singaporean badminton player, at a 2002 sports meet. After participating in the Athens Olympics together, they began dating and in September 2004, the “golden couple” (as the media called them) announced their engagement. Rumours circulated that they were splitting up two years later. They divorced in 2008.

Li was born in Beijing, People’s Republic of China on 9th August 1981. She is the only child of a government official, and a housewife. Li attended the Beijing Shichahai Sports School in 1990. She was selected for the Beijing provincial team in 1994 and her table tennis skills were recognized by talent scouts from Singapore. She was invited to Singapore to train under the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme in 1996. She only returned to China one year each to visit her parents. The following year, she began competing in table tennis competitively for Singapore. She became a Singaporean citizen at the age of 18.

In 2005, she was second in the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals, and gained silver medals for the women’s singles and mixed doubles at the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held between 28 November and 4 December 2005 in Manila. She was also the key player in the gold-winning women’s team and women’s doubles events. In December 2005, she was ranked third in the world as a singles player. She won an individual Singapore Youth Award in 2005 and was Her World magazine’s Young Woman Achiever of 2005.
