The Dubs won a disappointing 2010 championship and were able to qualify for the 2011 National Hurling League final. This was their first final since over 70 years. Rushe was awarded a National League medal for his epic defeat of Kilkenny, which was 0-22 to 1-07. The result of the Leinster final was reversed that day as both sides faced each other again. The score was 4-17 to 1-15, which gave the victory to ‘the Cats. Dublin, despite this defeat, continued to the championship and reached the All-Ireland semifinal against Tipperary, reigning All-Ireland champions. Tipp was given a great challenge by Rushe’s team, but they narrowly beat them 1-19 to 0.18. Rushe won his first All-Star award, while also being named All-Stars Young Hurlers of the Year.
Rushe’s side retained their provincial title in 2011 following another comprehensive defeat of Wexford. He was named man of the match for his performance in that game ‘The Dubs’ later played in the All-Ireland final against Galway, however, they were beaten by 3-14 to 1-10.
Rushe was a member of the team’s first championship appearance in 2009 and has been a regular member since. He has won one Leinster Senior Hurling Championship medal (2013), one National Hurling League winner’s medal, and has been a runner up in two Leinster finals.
