He graduated from Warsaw University in 1979. In 2002, he received his doctorate. He also earned his postdoctoral diploma in 2013. He was a member the editorial staff of “Literatura na Swiecie”, a Polish magazine dedicated to foreign literature, from 1984 to 1995. He was a lecturer in Warsaw University from 1997 to 1998 and a visiting professor at Palacky University Olomouc (Czech Republic).
