The year 1995 was the first time Kamikawa played a role in the TV drama produced by NHK, Daichi no Ko as the lead part, Lu Yixin. The original writer, Toyoko Yamasaki, initially had hoped for Masahiro Motoki to take on the part. However, because the majority part of the show was shot within China and required a significant amount of travel, Motoki wasn’t capable of meeting the strict schedule of filming. A member of the team came across Kamikawa who was unknown, in a newspaper. Toyoko Yamasaki later commented that Kamikawa was the ideal option.
