Leontii Voitovych is one of the most popular and richest Research Fellow who was born on May 16, 1951 in Yemanzhelinsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia. The artist was born within his native Ural Region within Ural region of the Russian Federation, Voitovych is from the Western Ukraine. A grandparent of his father, Petro Voitovych (1862-1938) was a Lviv sculpturer and is famous for his work at Lviv Opera. His family was exiled to his Ural Mountains during the Stalin period, and he grew in a tiny mining town alongside a lot of children from Soviet exiles. The father of his, who had completed his studies at the Prague Polytechnic as a bridge engineer, died in a mine after an explosion of methane. Following the death of Stalin in 1956, Voitovych and his mother returned to his homeland and moved to Mykolaiv, Lviv Oblast. Because during the Soviet Union Voitovych was recognized as an “unreliable element” by state authorities (i.e. the family of exiles from the past) and was therefore discouraged to even consider enrolling at Lviv’s University of Lviv.

In the latter part of 1990, Voitovych was a professor in the an academic division that dealt with Ancient History of Ukraine at the University of Lviv and since 2005 Voitovych is head of the Department in the field of Middle Ages history and Byzantine studies.

In 1981, he began to become involved in research on historical events. His mentor was the doktor of science Yaroslav Isayevych, who was the head of the historical landmark department at the Institute of Social Sciences (today Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies).

Leontii Voitovych (Ukrainian: Voitovich Leontii Viktorovich, May 16 1951 Yemanzhelinsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast today Russian Federation) is a modern Ukrainian scientist-historian who is the Doctor of Science (Ukrainian: Doktor Nauk) degree. It is also a researcher at the department of Middle Ages history at the Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) and also an academic department head of historical studies in the field of Middle Ages and Byzantine studies at the University of Lviv.

In 1972, he graduated in 1972 from Lviv Polytechnic Institute, now Lviv Polytechnic National University, with a specialization in mechanical Engineering. Following graduation, Voitovych was employed in Berehove as an area branch that was part of the All-Union Institute of maintenance and the exploitation of the park for vehicles.

In 1994 Voitovych defended his dissertation for a candidate of sciences on “Appanage duchies of Riurikids and Gediminids in 12-16th centuries”. In 2001 he defended his doctorate dissertation “Princely dynasties of Eastern Europe (9-16th centuries): composition, social and political role”.
