The family he was born into was Jewish. His birthplace was in Moscow on the 16th of July 1968. The father of the boy was Nikolai Petrovich Agutin, a musician while his mom was Lyudmila Leonidovna Shkol’nikova. She was an educator at elementary schools. The father of the son was vocalist in the Soviet group VIA “Golubiye Gitary” (Blue Guitars) and also worked as an administrator for the well-known Soviet music groups “Veseliye Rebyata” (Happy Kids), “Poyuschiye Serdtsa” (Singing Hearts) and “Pesniary” (Songsters).

Agutin released his album Cosmopolitan Life along with guitar player Al Di Meola in 2005 that gained popularity and international recognition because in his participation in the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Along with receiving a regular school education, the young Agutin also completed a course of musical study on the piano at the Moscow Jazz school “Moskvorechie”. He later served in the army on the Russia–Finland border.

Leonid Nikolayevich Adgutin (Russian: Leonid Nikolaevich Agutin born on 16 July 1968) is a Russian pop singer and songwriter, as well as a Meritorious Artist from Russia (2008). He’s been in the business since the 90s. He has released 10 albums and 3 compilations.

The year 1991 was when Agutin was touring throughout across the Soviet Union with a musical show. He participated in and was the winner of his first prize in 1992’s Yalta international contest for pop music as well as the same event during Jurmala during 1993. Agutin made his debut single album as a solo artist, Bosonogiy Malchik (“Barefoot Boy”) in 1994. It was a hit and started his career. The album was a hit on the charts and he received Russian Grammy awards for “Singer of the Year”, “Song of the Year” and “Album of the Year”. The album featured the hit songs “Hop hey, la la ley” and “Golos visokiy travy” (Sound of the Tall Grass). The album was released in 1995. Agutin came out with his second studio album which was titled “Dekameron”. It was another commercial hit and alongside Philipp Kirkorov, Valeriy Meladze along with Lubeh, Agutin became one of the most popular recording artists during the Russian Grammy balloting.

Following the festival, the Austrian directors Hannes Rossacher and Rudi Dolezal of DoRo Productions made a documentary about the lives of Agutin and Di Meola, called Cosmopolitan Live, released in February 2008.
