Leopold Rufus “Leo” Allen (born on the 5th of July 1972) is an American stand-up writer and comedian born in Detroit, Michigan, known as the other half of the comedy duo Slovin and Allen.
A veteran of many New York City comedy clubs and venues of alternative, Allen performs solo and as part of the duo “Slovin and Allen.” He has performed on tour with comedians like Eugene Mirman, Demetri Martin, Todd Barry, Michael Showalter as well as other comedians. He hosts “Whiplash” at Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre in NYC, for which he was nominated to win the 2009 ECNY Award for Best Host.
Allen was a writer and executive producer on the first season of IFC series Comedy Bang! Bang!, which aired in 2012. He guest starred on the third episode which aired on June 22, 2012, playing a man who eats bicycles.
Since September of in 2005 Allen took on the task of reading 100 novels over the course of a year. Halfway through the year Allen cited as his top books The Ginger Man by J.P. Donleavy, The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, Don Quixote by Cervantes and any book written by Octavia Butler.
