Arthur Mitchell is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on July 31, 1950 in New York, United States. Mitchell originates from the town in New Rochelle, New York. Mitchell is the brother of reporter Andrea Mitchell, and the son of Cecile Mitchell and Sydney Mitchell. Mitchell’s father was chief executive officer as well as a partial proprietor of a furniture manufacturing firm located in Manhattan in addition to being director of Beth El Synagogue in New Rochelle for the past 40 years. His mother was the administrator of the New York Institute of Technology in Manhattan. Mitchell was able to move from the United States to Canada during the 70s. He settled at Atlin, British Columbia to manage a general store before the move towards Yukon in the beginning of the 1990s. He then became an agent for real estate in Whitehorse.

Mitchell was the party’s leader to gain official Opposition status in May of 2006 following the defection from two New Democrat MLAs, Gary McRobb and Eric Fairclough, to the Liberal caucus. Under Mitchell’s direction, the Liberals maintained the Official Opposition status after the fact during 2006. Yukon election, thereby increasing the number of seats in the party by one. Mitchell was the Chief of the Opposition in Yukon in the 32nd Legislative Assembly.

Mitchell announced his intention to seek re-election in the redistributed riding of Copperbelt North in the 2011 election, after his riding of Copperbelt was dissolved. However, he was defeated by Currie Dixon of the Yukon Party and announced his resignation as the head of the Yukon Liberal Party. As a result of its loss, the Yukon Liberal Party was once again reduced to third party status.

Mitchell shortly after his election, was a candidate in a by-election for the Copperbelt riding Copperbelt in 2005 after his resignation from Haakon Arntzen, who was convicted of sexual assault. Mitchell became a member of his seat in the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the November 21st by-election.
