Lee Wing-tat is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on December 25, 1955 in British Hong Kong, Hong Kong. Lee Wing- tat (Chinese: Li Yong Da born 25 December, 1955) was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo) who was elected back via direct election as the representative for the New Territories West constituency. Lee was also the 3rd chairman of the Democratic Party (DP). He is considered to be an extreme conservative within the party.
On May 5, 2005 Lee made it clear that he would run for his bid for Hong Kong Chief Executive Election however, he received only 52 nominations and was unable to be included on the ballot. The result was that Lee pulled out of the election on the 15th of June. His involvement in the election was criticized by the Democratic Party and the pro-democracy movement.
Lee was criticized for suppressing the second-tier members and “Young Turks” of the party. In early 2006, someone alleged to the Apple Daily that some senior members were involved in spying activities of China. The “suspects” were all Young Turks and included vice-chairman Chan King Ming and Gary Fan. The Young Turks later held a press conference to criticise the list of “suspects”, with some even directly naming Lee as responsible.
In June 2010, he voted with the party in favour of the government’s 2012 constitutional reform package, which included the late amendment by the Democratic Party – accepted by the Beijing government – to hold a popular vote for five new District Council functional constituencies.
Lee quit the ADPL and founded his own party, the United Democrats of Hong Kong which later became the Democratic Party in 1994. Lee got elected as a Legco that same year. He was a candidate for the Legco in the 2000 election , but was reelected in 2004. He was vice-chairman for the Democratic Party from 2002 to 2004 and was elected Chairman at the sixth AGM of the DP succeeding in succession to Yeung Sum. The candidate he was battling for the Chairman’s seat Chan King-ming was elected Vice-Chairman.

The Hakka, Lee was elected vice-chairman of the Hongkong Students’ Union of the University in 1979. Lee graduated from his Faculty of Science of the University of Hong Kong with the distinction of passing. He began his political career during the 1980s. He was Vice-Chairman for the Association for Democracy and People’s Livelihood (ADPL). The ADPL was elected the District Council and the Regional Council in 1986 and 1985 respectively. He was the early member in the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China.
In 1989, on Geoffrey Howe’s visit to Hong Kong, Geoffrey Howe to Hong Kong, Lee protested at the conference and called the speech of Geoffrey Howe “bullshit”.
Lee did not seek a second term as party chairman in the party’s internal elections in December 2006.
