Omar Renan Moreno Quintero (born on the 24th of October 1952) was a center fielder from the past who played from the year 1975 until 1987 in Major League Baseball. He is most well-known for his time playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and was the center fielder of the team’s starting lineup and leadoff hitter of the team’s 1979 World Series champion team.

The 96 bases he stole in the year 1980 were the most by any player to not be the top major league stealer in the entire season. Ron LeFlore edged him out by taking more than 97 bases. Moreno made a record that was not so impressive in the year he played by striking out 560 times, which was a major-league record.

Moreno made a cameo appearance in the Mexican movie El Hombre de la Mandolina, which was nominated for a Silver Ariel in 1985. He appeared in an uncredited role on the show Space Ghost: Coast To Coast along with fellow major leaguer Mookie Wilson in an episode called “Chinatown”.

Moreno has returned to Panama since his retirement. He and his wife Sandra have run the Omar Moreno Foundation, a youth baseball charity for underprivileged kids in Panama. Moreno assumed the title of Secretary of Sports, a position created by then-President-elect Ricardo Martinelli in May 2009.

Moreno played in every game during the seasons of 1979 and 1980 and was the leader of his team to the National League in at bats during both seasons.
