Laurynas Birutis (born 27 August 1997) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player who plays for CBet Prienai of the Lithuanian Basketball League on the loan of Zalgiris Kaunas.

Laurynas Birutis was the first player to debut with the Lithuania men’s basketball team at 2013. He was a part of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship in Ukraine. Birutis won bronze medals for the Lithuania men’s basketball team u-18 during the 2015 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship. Birutis along with his age-related teammates: Tadas Sedekerskis and Martynas Varnas, was selected to participate for the FIBA’s Youth All-Star Game during EuroBasket 2015. On February 26, 2018, Birutis debuted as a participant in the Lithuania national basketball team. He scored 8 points and taking home six rebounds. He was also able to defeat Kosovo’s Kosovo National Basketball team by 106-50 in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification.

On the 14th of April, 2017, after dominating the lower tier of National Basketball League with 17.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2 blocks every game Birutis received an invitation to be a part of the elite Lithuanian Basketball League playoffs team Vytautas Prienai-Birstonas. Birutis was a forceful debutant on the 15th of April in 2017 scoring 17 points and collecting four rebounds, however his team fell 92-89 to a Justas Tamulis’ buzzer beater. A few days later Birutis scored his first win of 96-89 in LKL against The Neptunas Klaipeda, and he was ranked second Vytautas scoring player with 19 points and six rebounding.

Birutis began his professional journey by signing with BC Zalgiris-2 during summer 2014. On the 5th of January 2016 in an encounter in a match against BC Petrochema he made a National Basketball League record by rebounding 23 balls. 1 August 2017 Birutis joined his local squad BC Siauliai. In the Karaliaus Mindaugo 2018 taure quarter-finals against Lithuanian champions Zalgiris Kaunas Birutis performed his best game of his career with 35 points, collecting 11 rebounds, giving 2 assists and blocking a shot, but the team was defeated 85-78. On April 18, 2018 Birutis was drafted in the year 2018 NBA Draft. In the 2nd LKL season, he was the top player in the three major stats lines for his league position with 14,9 points 73% rebounds, 7,3 points and 1,3 blocks. In the wake of his remarkable performance, Birutis has received the LKL Most Valuable Player Award. Additionally, thanks to his support, BC Siauliai recovered from having the most disappointing record in the league in the last year (6-30) and was a strong playoffs participant finishing 5th in the season (16-20). In the season’s final ceremony the team was also named the most promising young player in LKL. It was announced at conclusion of season Birutis will be returning with Zalgiris in the 2018-19 season.
