Her drawing process is meticulous marking is performed on large, smooth surface of complex gray tones. Her drawings evoke the 19th century European Romantic painting and Hudson River School painting in the U.S. Bruce often works with historical sources that she interprets in a modern perspective as in her work Perpetual, which is a collection consisting of 79 sketches that are based on Francisco Goya’s work Los Caprichos. It was displayed at length for the first time at the Haus am Waldsee Museum in Berlin in the year 2018. or her sound and drawing piece Goodbye Is Half the Words You Know (2009-2013) in which Bruce shows 10 pictures of iconic country music stars and reinterprets the songs with her band Dangerpony. Part of the work was shown in the year 2016 as part of the exhibition Passion – Fan Art and Behavior (curated by Christoph Tannert) at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin as well as the Ludwig Museum, Budapest. The entire work was displayed in the group show I Wish This Was A Song (curated by Stina Hogkvist and Sabrina van der Ley) at the Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art in 2013.
Laura Bruce’s massive-format (10 6 meters x 10 inches) site-specific commission “De Septentrione ad Astrum” is a permanent wall mural that was completed in the year 2015 within Aschersleben at the Bestehornpark building. It was then given in the town of Aschersleben.
