Josh Hannay (born 11 January 1980 in Moranbah, Queensland) is an Australian former professional footballer from the rugby league. He is also the currently assistant coach for the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League (NRL). He is a Queensland State of Origin representative goal- kicking center, he established the record for the most points scored by the North Queensland Cowboys. Hannay was also a player for NRL team, The Cronulla- Sutherland Sharks and also in the Super League for Welsh club the Crusaders.

In the years 2010 and 2011, Hannay was a player with Mackay Cutters. Mackay Cutters in the Queensland Cup competition.

In 2014 Hannay was appointed head coach of the Souths Logans Magpie in the QRL’s Intrust Super Cup competition. In 2016, Hannay was appointed QLD u18’s coach.

Josh Hannay was used mainly as a goal-kicker and centre with the Celtic Crusaders. As of August 9, 2009 Hannay as well as five teammates were ordered out of in the United Kingdom after the UK Border Agency discovered violations of their visa requirements. Celtic Crusaders cancelled Hannay’s contract immediately.

Hannay was chosen for his first appearance at 16 in the 1996 season. However the decision was denied by the Australian Rugby League, as Hannay was not 17 years old of age by the end of the season. In 1998, he made his debut in the grade as a player for the Cowboys. From 1998 until 2006, the Cowboys had him as a regular first-grade centre with the Cowboys and also became the club’s most prolific scorer of points. Hannay first began playing State of Origin football for Queensland in 2003’s State of Origin series. He scored two goals in three attempts during the Cowboys losing in the final to Wests Tigers in the 2005 NRL Grand Final. He was also one of the centres of the Maroons in game 3 of the 2006 State of Origin series.

Hannay joined The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 2007 until the close of the 2008 season. After struggling to find his form in top grades as well as Premier League, both he along with his fellow Sharks player Brett Seymour were told they weren’t wanted in Premier League. Hannay was then forced to play with The Gymea Gorillas before signing with the Crusaders.

In 2012, Hannay captained/coached the Moranbah Miners to premiership success in the Mackay and Districts A-Grade Rugby League competition. In 2013, he retired from playing and solely focused on coaching Moranbah.
