Lancaster was anticipated to return to his position in the F3 Euroseries for the 2009 season, competing in SG Formula alongside Toyota junior drivers Henkie Waldschmidt and Andrea Caldarelli, but a conflict with the team in the preseason led to the team’s decision to use Alexandre Marsoin as a driver in the team. He was signed by Comtec Racing for the rest of the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series season and won his first race during the series’ inaugural racing in the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimao. He finished 13th at the top of the standings. In 2010, he returned to championship in 2010 and moved into Fortec Motorsport.
Lancaster began 2011 without a regular drive, but moved to Formula Two to take part in the Magny-Cours event only, driving with sponsorship from Silver Lining. He scored points in both races in which he competed.
Lancaster made his GP2 Series début in 2012. He signed to drive for Ocean Racing Technology with fellow rookie Nigel Melker. He was replaced by Brendon Hartley after the first event of the season for budgetary reasons.
Lancaster was promoted into Formula 3 in Formula 3 Euro Series for the 2008 season, and drove for several champions at the ART Grand Prix. It was a difficult year for Lancaster, the Yorkshireman who finished 12th in the championship and winning the Nurburgring. There were some incidents however the Yorkshireman Lancaster suffered a terrible crash in the season’s opening event at Hockenheim. In a crash similar as the one in 2005 Lucas di Grassi in 2005, Lancaster clipped the rear wheel of Jean Karl Vernay’s vehicle as he was battling for sixth position. The car was flipped over, sliding across the runoff from the tarmac upside-down before resurfacing inside the gravel pit. The Englishman did not race in the race in the following one due to his hospitalization for a checkup. In races that were not championship-level, Lancaster finished third at Zolder for ART in the Masters of Formula 3 event and placed 11th in Macau Grand Prix. Macau Grand Prix for Manor Motorsport.

Karting was his main sport of competition between 1999 between 1999 and the year 2006 Lancaster made the move to Formulae racing with a single seat, participating on two Formula Ford races in the Stars of Silverstone series, winning one of them before moving on to Formula Renault 2.0, the Formula Renault 2.0 UK Winter Series alongside The AKA Lamac team. Lancaster placed 16th in the championship, registering an 8th place finish in round two held at Brands Hatch.
2007 saw Lancaster climb into Formula Renault Eurocup driving for the second team of SG Formula, SG Drivers Project. Lancaster struggled during the first period of the season, finishing in the second place at the Hungaroring in the beginning of the season, however, he was a complete surprise during the final eight races. Five wins, including the last four races put Lancaster the second position in the championship ahead of Kiwi Brendon Hartley. He paired his European campaign by participating with the French Formula Renault Championship, taking part in eleven of the thirteen races. He finished sixth, with two wins in Magny-Cours as well as Barcelona. In the following seasons, he raced for Hitech Racing’s team’s juniors in the Formula Renault UK Winter Series and finished 14th in the championship, despite securing the third position on the podium at Donington Park in round two.
Lancaster also competed two rounds in Auto GP with Super Nova Racing in 2011. He won at Donington in wet conditions.
