Jon Aurtenetxe is one of the most popular and richest Spanish footballer who was born on January 3, 1992 in Amorebieta-Etxano, Spain. Jon Aurtenetxe Borde (born 3 January 1992) is a Spanish footballer who is primarily as a left-back, however, he also plays as a central defensive defender at CD Atletico Baleares.

Aurtenetxe was a regular choice in the team of Athletic in 2012-13. However, following the appointment of Ernesto Valverde as manager, Aurtenetxe was omitted by Mikel Balenziaga. He was also not seen in the team’s lineup often. He played on loan at RC Celta de Vigo (top division) and CD Tenerife (Segunda Division) and, in the summer of 2016, Aurtenetxe resigned his contract and transferred to second-level team CD Mirandes on a one-year contract.

In August 2017, after some weeks without a club, Aurtenexte joined Segunda División B’s Amorebieta, returning to where he had played as a child 15 years earlier and reuniting with his former Athletic teammate Joseba Etxeberria who was now acting as manager. On 29 August, it was announced that he had left.

Aurtenetxe returned to Amorebieta for the 2018 pre-season, on the same understanding as the previous year that he would be allowed to leave if he received a better offer from another club. On 19 July, he acted as captain in a friendly match against former employers Athletic Bilbao.

Aurtenetxe has won two caps in the Spanish under-21 squad, as well several games. His debut came 13 November 2012 with a 3-1 loss to Italy at Siena.

Born in the city of Amorebieta-Etxano Biscay Aurtenetxe was a part of Athletic Bilbao’s youth program at 10 years old after moving from the nearby SD Amorebieta and being a finalist in the Copa del Rey Juvenil in 2009 (he was victorious in that contest in the next year). The 16th of December in the year, before starting his first game in the reserve team, the 17-year-old played for the first team of the UEFA Europa League, featuring the entire 90 minutes of the group stage, a 0-3 home defeat in the group stage against SV Werder Bremen.

Aurtenetxe began his La Liga debut on 28 August 2010and made his debut before getting taken off in the 1-0 loss in the 1-0 win against Hercules CF. His season was slowed down by an injury to his shoulder and he was made a part of the main squad in 2011-12 under the his new boss Marcelo Bielsa. He took part in 54 official matches throughout the season and scored four goals, helping the Basques to reach at both Copa del Rey and the Europa League finals – he scored a crucial goal during the club’s defeat at home to Sporting CP in the latter semifinals of the competition (4-3 aggregate victory).

On 30 August 2017, Aurtenetxe signed for Scottish Premiership club Dundee on a contract until January 2018. He made his league debut on 28 October, coming on as a 64th-minute substitute in a 3–1 home loss against Hamilton Academical. He agreed to a new deal on 12 January 2018 that kept him at Dens Park until the end of the season, following which he was released.
