John McGurk (born 3 November 1965, Lavey, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland) is an ex-dual player who is well-known for his role as the only Gaelic soccer player with the Derry senior team in the 1990s and 1980s. He was a part of the 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side and also took home the two Ulster Championships with the side. In the 1993 Championship He was awarded the All Stars Award.
It was his Derry senior debut in 1988, as 19-year-old, playing Antrim within Antrim in the National Football League. He was part of the 1993 Ulster Championship and All-Ireland winning team that defeated Cork during the championship final. McGurk added another Ulster Championship medal in 1998.
McGurk also won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1991 with his club Lavey, where he was captain. He was one of very few players in Ireland to complete this unique double and almost did the extreme rarity of winning both competitions in the same year in 1993, but Lavey were defeated in the All-Ireland club after winning their second Ulster Senior Club Football Championship.
He won National Football League medals with Derry in 1992, 1995 and 1996.
The most notable hurling achievement for McGurk included taking home his first Ulster Under 21 Hurling Championship together with Derry in 1986. He defeated Antrim and Down in the process. He scored 1-01 in the semi-final against Antrim in the semi-finals at Loughguile with a 2-20-1-06 win. They defeated Down at the end of the game following an equalizer, 3-9 to 1-02. The brother of McGurk Collie was also on the team.
