Marshall Jr. (born on June 2nd 1961) is an American electric blues guitarist, songwriter and singer. His most well-known songs include “Found Another Woman” and “98 Cents in the Bank”. The band was discovered through Johnny Rawls in the mid 1990s, Marshall has released three albums and continues to be an active live performer until the present .

The singer is not to confuse with contemporaneous R&B artist, which has released the album When the Smoke Cleans (2010).

Marshall is a native of Whigham, Grady County, Georgia, United States. He was a member of the gospel choir when he was a kid and later was taught how to play the drums in order to accompany a gospel group. Marshall began to become more interested in electric guitar, and took lessons to aid him in using the instrument. He was able to start his own group, The Blues Ignitors. But, he had to find a full-time job in a factory for meat packing to help support his expanding family. In his free moments, Marshall regularly attended his local juke spot, Dave’s CC Club, located in Tallahassee, Florida, where he studied the artists who played there. Additionally, Marshall performed there himself and was once spotted by another artist performing on his bill: Johnny Rawls. In the latter part of 1990, Rawls helped to develop Marshall’s rapidly growing career. The result was Rawls playing the rhythm guitar, singing and composing Marshall’s debut album.

Live for Today was released by JSP Records in 1998. The album received great reviews with AllMusic saying it as “As debuts go, this is more impressive than most.” Special guests on the album include Eddie Kirkland, Sonny Rhodes, Slam Allen, and George Boone. The album had eleven songs, each original compositions and Marshall either composed, or co-penned eight sides. This included “Dave’s C.C. Groove” which was written to pay tribute towards his early days at the club he used to play in. Marshall was on tour in support of the album’s release, playing throughout all of the United States and with a handful of dates in Europe.

The Johnnie Marshall Blues Band performed on July 4, 2015, at the Bradfordville Blues Club, Tallahassee, Florida, and are scheduled to appear there again on New Year’s Eve in 2017. The Johnnie Marshall Blues Band also appeared in September 2016, at the inaugural Florida Jazz & Blues Festival in Cascades Park (Tallahassee).
